Ingredients

  • 60 mlcocoa(~¼ cup)
  • 125 mlboiling water(~½ cup)
  • 3eggs
  • 200 mlsugar(~⅞ cup)
  • 60 mloil(~¼ cup)
  • 250 mlcake flour(~1 cup)
  • 10 mlbaking powder
  • 2 mlsalt

Method

    Make the cocoa mixture: mix cocoa and boiling water together, allow to cool.

    Add the cocoa mixture.

  3. 03

    Add water, beating as you go.

  4. 04

    Beat together well.

  5. 05

    Add to the mixture.

    Pour into 2 greased pans.

    Bake at 180°C for 30 minutes.

    Syrup: combine 250 ml sugar, 250 ml water and 2 teaspoons coffee powder.

    Pour over the cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.


Notes

The syrup is poured over the hot cake immediately out of the oven. 2 teaspoons of coffee powder give the syrup a mocha flavour.
